MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Santa Claus made an early visit to KIPP Collegiate Elementary, taking pictures with students and giving each child a special gift.

Community organizations worked together to raise nearly 400 presents to help families have a happy Christmas.

Gwendolyn Williams, chief of staff at KIPP Memphis Public Schools, said the event is one of her favorite holiday activities.

“This is one of my favorite things around the holidays that we get to do. Just seeing the students so happy when they come in because they’re always surprised, like they see all the gifts and their eyes get so big,” Williams said.

Williams said the gift-giving addresses a real need for families.

“Not all families can afford to get toys and things for their students so we’re just glad to even be able to provide that one through our partners,” she said.
