ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — It’s the start of a new school year for many districts across the Capital Region, and one school, KIPP Capital High School has opened its doors for the first time ever.

The first day has been great. Went talking to all my different friends and all my different classes,” said Joshdan Goldson.

Joshdan started ninth grade at KIPP Capital High School on Tuesday. He has been with the KIPP Capital Region Public Schools since being in kindergarten.

“I would be looking forward to physics class that would be my favorite class,” said Joshdan.

The newly constructed three-story building currently holds about 430 students, but Manager and Director of Schools and Principal Derrick Bass said that number will double over the next four years. He said the building was meticulously created with a college-style layout in mind.

“The building has been specifically designed to make sure that sunlight is coming through the building. Making sure that students are getting access to natural sunlight,” said Bass.
