Gonzalo Verdugo

KIPP NYC Public Schools

Gonzalo Verdugo is from Harlem, NY, and will attend Boston College this fall to study human-centered engineering. Over his high school years at Cristo Rey New York High School, he has been the varsity soccer team’s captain, one of the senior leaders of the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice, a student intern at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP law firm in Times Square, a summer counselor for the REACH Program at Regis High School and participated in Code Nation. He would like to thank his counselors, the Ruth and Norman Rales Scholars Program for giving him this amazing opportunity, the KIPP community, and his parents, who guided him through the college process. They came to the United States to provide a better future for Gonzalo, and now he believes it is his turn to carry the torch for his family and his community.
