Alvin, a KIPP San Jose Collegiate graduate, is attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study computer science to improve preparedness for potential disease outbreaks. He served as vice president of the Computer Science Club and collaborated on creating a machine-learning algorithm to detect geographic locations susceptible to COVID-19 by comparing bat and coronavirus genomes. In his spare time, he tutors for STEM education and volunteers frequently to help his community overcome pressing challenges.
