Allen Wang

KIPP Academy Lynn Collegiate, Lynn, MA

In his AP Chemistry classroom, Mr. Wang interweaves essential life lessons into the curriculum. He has grown the AP Chemistry program by 20 students annually, and doubled students’ passing rates on the AP exam from 2017-2019. A founding faculty advisor for KIPP Academy Lynn Collegiate’s Asian Student Union, he often acts as a facilitator for the school’s internal initiatives on social and racial justice. He has secured grants for the school totaling close to $10,000 to bolster digital literacy, improve students’ access to technology, and fund innovative lab projects. Under his leadership, students in his Principles of Engineering class won the Massachusetts Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition, receiving $15,000 worth of technology for their classroom.

“Allen Wang’s commitment to students, families, and the community at large is palpable and his devotion to teaching and teaching well is unparalleled,” says Kari Schuler, Dean of Math and Science Instruction at KIPP Academy Lynn Collegiate. “We often talk about our science department as ‘before Mr. Wang’ and ‘after Mr. Wang.’”

To end this note, I want to leave you with a video that shows the moment Mr. Wang learned he received the award. The joy is palpable.
