Camille Craven of KIPP Ascend Middle School in Chicago, IL is honored with the 2024 Harriett Ball Excellence in Teaching Award. This award recognizes outstanding teachers from the KIPP network. The winning teachers, nominated by their school leaders, were recognized for their leadership and dedication to improving outcomes for students.
Ms. Craven is dedicated to enhancing the academic and cultural experience for all students, especially diverse learners. She works tirelessly to ensure that KIPP Ascend Middle School is inclusive and sets a high bar of excellence for all students.
At KIPP, she quickly became a model for diverse learning instruction, balancing remediation with grade-level content. Her efforts led to 100% of her 7th graders reading with over 90% accuracy. A visitor noted that if all DL classrooms were like hers, there would be no inequity in diverse learning education. Through her relentless actions, she has made our school a beacon of equitable instruction.
