HARRIETT BALL EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING - KIPP Chicago Public Schools

Evonne Bankston (they/them), a 7th Grade Social Studies Teacher at KIPP Bloom College Prep in Chicago, Illinois, has been honored with the 2024 Harriett Ball Excellence in Teaching Award. This award recognizes outstanding teachers from the KIPP network. The winning teachers, nominated by their school leaders, were recognized for their leadership and dedication to improving outcomes for students.

Echoes of Harriett Ball’s brilliance can be seen in Bankston each day. They ignite that same spark, compelling students to run to school each day, filled with a deep passion for learning. Beyond their role as a teacher, they serve as SEL Chair, Model UN Chair, Penn Foster Coach for parents and community members earning HS diplomas, Vocal Justice Lead, Boys Basketball Coach, and Student Recruitment Lead. They're also KIPP Chicago's Children's Museum Project Lead for Museum Partnerships, an Artificial Intelligence Champion, Equality IL Advisor, and Enrichment Coordinator for 21st Century After School Programming.
