KIPP provides back-to-school supplies to help parents
ByAditi LambaCapital Region teachers and students are back to school fully after a couple of years of uncertainty, but not without some stress.
School supplies have seen sharp rises in cost. Some parents have had to choose between providing meals or new supplies for their children.
So what does one do at that point? KIPP Troy Prep Elementary has the answer.
For this year, KIPP was able to provide supplies worth more than $36,000. Officials say they hope to relieve the stressful burden of inflation on parents.
“Historically, this is an under-resourced area, and so we want to make sure that all of our children have equitable access to everything that they need,” said KIPP Principal Jamila Hammet. “So whether that’s uniforms, school supplies, free breakfast, lunch snack. We want to make sure that they have everything they need to be successful in this building, and that we are supporting our families, and letting them know we got you.”
