KIPP, the Knowledge Is Power Program, and Washington University have partnered to increase college completion rates for KIPP students from educationally underserved communities in St. Louis and nationwide.

Washington University has offered to meet the financial need for all KIPP alumni who are accepted to the school.

Cherly Adelstein, Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Community Relations at the university and Boahemaa Adu-Oppong, KIPP Alumni and current Washington University PhD student joined us to discuss the joint venture.

Bo attended one of the original KIPP middle schools in Houston in the mid-1990s. She`s now a PhD candidate at Washington University studying biology.

Since beginning her PhD program, Bo has become the leader of Wash U`s Young Scientist program, where she and other graduate students work with all St. Louis public schools to do demonstrations and workshops to get K-12 students more interested in science. She plans to become a professor and continue her work to inspire young scientists.

Washington University is KIPP`s first college partner in the state of Missouri.
