Toria Walker is a proud alumna of KIPP DC: KEY Academy located in Washington, DC. Expanding upon the passion for science that she developed at KIPP, she received a B.A. in Neuroscience from Mount Holyoke College in 2015. She has performed research studying the mechanisms of underlying nerve damage and post-treatment regeneration of nerve insulation in a Multiple Sclerosis and an Epilepsy model. In March 2017, she founded the TACKLE Inc. College Readiness Program to aid high school students from the DMV area with SAT test preparation and the college application process. While preparing her application for medical school, she currently works as a research technician performing contract vaccine research trials for diseases such as Zika Virus, Malaria, Rabies, and variant strains of the Flu Virus. Her dream is to become a Neurologist who works with a team of researchers and physicians to develop neuroprosthetic devices that restore motor function to patients with spinal cord injuries and neurodegenerative disorders.
