Derrick Bennett, 2016-17

Derrick Bennett, born and raised in rural eastern North Carolina, is a proud Panther of KIPP ENC where he attributes the foundation of his career. As a Tar Heel, Derrick attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and discovered his passion for Economics and Philosophy. Derrick spent much of his spare time tutoring and mentoring in local area schools and was recognized as an UNC Public Service Scholar. After graduating, he attended East Carolina University and received his MBA, while also working in Branch Banking & Trust Companys Trust Division. Aspiring to grow in the banking industry, Derrick transitioned into regulatory supervision, where he currently serves as a financial bank examiner at the North Carolina Office of the Commissioner of Banks, and focuses on capital markets and macro-economic research. Aside from his career, he also enjoys residential construction and recently obtained his North Carolina Building Contractor license to help provide affordable housing to rural underserved communities. Derrick aims to continue leading rural counties through financial literacy and professional development.
