As the founding KIPP schools in Houston and New York built a record of high student achievement, the question became: Can this success be replicated? In 2000, the nonprofit KIPP Foundation was formed to achieve that goal. Today, KIPP trains proven educators to become exemplary School Leaders and provides support for their efforts to establish and run great public schools. The heart of these efforts is the KIPP School Leadership Program, which trains outstanding educators to establish their own KIPP Schools. KIPP School Leaders continue to receive support from KIPP to reach operational, instructional, and organizational excellence. Through ongoing professional development events, KIPP school leaders and teachers are supported with training and opportunities to exchange effective instructional practices. Students also gather annually for leadership training and to meet their KIPP peers.
Supporting the KIPP Foundation will help ensure that current and future KIPP schools have the resources necessary to propel their students up the mountain to college.
KIPP 2006 Annual Update
In April of 2007, the KIPP Foundation published the 2006 Annual Update, which highlights our accomplishments over the past year and provides an overview of our major initiatives surrounding growth and excellence. The Annual Update also details the Foundation's financial health. In particular, we are very proud that while the KIPP network grew by over 92 percent in four years, from 27 schools in 2003-04 to 52 schools in 2006-07, our operating expenses in the same period increased by only 33 percent. We are undertaking aggressive growth, but not at the expense of fiscal responsibility.
We also gratefully recognize an increasing number of philanthropic partners. Their generous support helps catalyze and sustain our efforts to provide a quality KIPP education to as many students as possible. We are thankful to be aligned with such amazing individuals and organizations.
