About

KIPP STAR Elementary is the 3^rd elementary school to join the KIPP NYC network of schools, proudly serving the Washington Heights community. Opening in August 2011 with our first class of Kindergarteners, the school will eventually grow to serve kindergarten through fourth grade.

At KIPP STAR Elementary, every moment is a learning moment – moments to shine, grow, and develop academically, socially, and emotionally. We are excited to build an environment where students, teachers, and families actively engage together in learning experiences that fuel curiosity and develop an ongoing love of learning.

Mission and Vision

KIPP STAR Elementary’s school values – Confidence, Curiosity, Character, Community, and Choice – guide our school vision: to empower students to think critically, explore openly, and imagine freely as they read, write, sing, dance, experiment, and discover every day.

We teach by example and by experience, creating opportunities for the construction and production of knowledge. When students leave our school, they will have the knowledge, habits, and skills to make the best choices for their lives. They will be prepared to succeed in, contribute to, and impact any arena that they enter as they move through college and navigate the world community.

Ways to Get Involved

Support - As a network of public charter schools, KIPP schools receive the majority of their funds from state and federal governments. However, KIPP offers much more than traditional schools, including an extended school day, week and year, field trips and extracurricular activities. To provide KIPP’s unique educational program, schools rely on support from community members, parents and local foundations.
