About

Lynn Barnes opened KIPP Coastal Village to serve students from Galveston and surrounding areas. KIPP Coastal Village has a curriculum framework based on the National Standards in English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. The instruction focuses on inquiry so that students learn early to think critically and solve problems in more than one way. The school has a project-based learning block daily for students in kindergarten and grades above that develops inquiry and guides students in research, data collection, and communication of learning to others.

Our excellence program, beginning at kindergarten, also provides 90 minutes of daily instruction to develop the creative side of learning. Students actively participate in dance, musical theater, technology, Spanish inquiry, and Eco-Art programs with the goals of sharing and/or presentations of their learning every 6 weeks.

Mission

KIPP Coastal Village will create a learning-centered community of leaders prepared for successful graduation from college and ready to be the change.

Vision

The success of KIPP Coastal Village students will change the face of education on Galveston Island.

Values

KIPP Coastal Village's Core Beliefs are expressed through a set of values based on the acronym WHISPER. These values, expected to be lived out by all adults and children, include:

Wisdom
Honor
Internal Control
Spirit
Persistence
Excellence
Relationships

Ways to Get Involved

Support - As a network of public charter schools, KIPP schools receive the majority of their funds from state and federal governments. However, KIPP offers much more than traditional schools, including an extended school day, week and year, field trips and extracurricular activities. To provide KIPP’s unique educational program, schools rely on support from community members, parents and local foundations.
