KIPP welcomes 20,000 students in the 2009-10 school year

Dear Friends,

Autumn is the back-to-school season, but here at KIPP the year starts early, with many students learning the ropes for the very first time in summer school. Eighty-two KIPP schools opened their doors to KIPPsters this summer—18 for the first time—our single largest annual expansion ever. As we increasingly focus on education that extends from pre-kindergarten through high school, KIPP now has 16 elementary schools and 11 high schools operating across the network.

New schools and established alike, we’ve read and heard a lot about how KIPP schools are starting the year off focused on success. See below for some of the media coverage sharing school openings and those back-to-school days.

Thanks to all of our school leaders, teachers, families and KIPPsters, for the work they do daily in order to climb the mountain to and through college. The 2009-10 school year is off to a great start.

Sincerely,

Richard Barth,
CEO, KIPP Foundation
