Leadership Team
Do you play a critical role in the success of your
KIPP school as an assistant principal, dean, coach, or team leader? The Leadership
Team Program provides intentional programming to foster personal growth and
offer targeted skill development. As a member of the cohort, participants will
develop their leadership identity, learn to navigate complex relationships
within their school and region, and connect with passionate and reflective
leaders from across the country.
OVERVIEW
The Leadership Team Program provides rigorous and
relevant learning experiences, including:
- Orientation: A three-day orientation in May to provide
an overview of the program along with opportunities for team-building and
training
- Summer Institute: Intensive five weeks of coursework,
taught by dynamic faculty and educational leaders, in a university setting. New
concepts uncovered in classroom discussions link to practical application
through collaborative peer groups known as Learning Teams and through
individualized coaching with a Leadership Guide.
- Intersessions: Three weekend
retreats (Intersessions) in fall and winter
for further development in the role
- Individualized development: Creation of Individualized
Leadership Plan that determines individualized support, including a Leadership
Guide, to maximize strengths and develop weaknesses
- Graduate Degree and Administrative Credential
(Optional): Opportunity to pursue a MA in Educational Leadership and an
administrative credential through National-Louis University
Because of connections made with colleagues, learning extends
far beyond the formal coursework itself and continues through the invaluable
network that is built over the course of the year.
GOALS
The Leadership Team Program, designated for leaders in
roles such as assistant principal or dean, is designed to prepare participants
for their new school-wide responsibilities in leadership and management.
Aligned with the KIPP Leadership Competency Model, the overarching goals of the
Leadership Team Program aim to empower participants to:
- Shift their perspective from teacher to leader as they
critically think about school-based problems and decisions that involve
multiple stakeholders
- Strengthen their ability to communicate effectively
and adjust their communication style across broad audiences
- Practice methods to impact and influence a wide
variety of stakeholders to support the school’s vision, goals, and values
- Acquire new skills for managing others, including
learning how to set and monitor teachers’ performance goals and holding others
accountable for results
- Develop strategies to effectively coach and mentor
teachers
- Increase their instructional leadership repertoire to
drive student achievement gains
- Experience the power of the cohort through formal and
informal problem-solving and thought partnership opportunities with talented
peers in similar roles
