KIPP Miles Family Fellows 2008-09


The Miles Family Fellowship provides selected participants with a two-year pathway to becoming a KIPP school leader. Miles Family Fellows receive a year of support and leadership experience while teaching in a KIPP school. After successfully completing the Miles Family Fellowship program, candidates will be considered for the year-long Fisher Fellowship in order to prepare them to open a new KIPP school In the 2008-09 school year, there are 8 Miles Family Fellows.


  • Pamela Chapman

    Pamela Chapman currently teaches fifth grade at Liberty Point Elementary School (Fulton, GA) where she began teaching in 2006. Chapman also serves as the Yearbook Committee Chair, Science Fair Coordinator, and Informal Collaboration Chair. Prior to this position, she worked with third and fifth grade students in Washington, DC and Norfolk, Virginia for six years. Chapman also served in the United States Army Reserve from 1988-1996. She received her BA from Otterbein College, her Master’s Degree in Teaching from Trinity University, and her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Regent University. Chapman is currently completing her Ed.D in Teaching. Chapman will teach at KIPP Ujima Village Academy (Baltimore, MD) in 2008-09.


  • Glenn Davis

    Glenn Davis is currently a sixth grade math teacher at KIPP LEAD College Prep Charter School (Gary, IN), where he also serves as the grade-level chair. Prior to joining KIPP, Davis taught seventh grade math in New York City for two years and also served as a Coro Fellow in Public Affairs, a fellowship that takes an experiential approach to leadership development. He earned his BS/BA from Washington University in St. Louis and his MST from Pace University. Davis will teach at KIPP LEAD College Prep Charter School in 2008-09.


  • Kynita Humphrey

    Kynita Humphrey is currently the Dean of Solutions at KIPP Tulsa College Preparatory (Tulsa, OK). Prior to this position, Humphrey taught fifth grade social studies and science, seventh grade math, upper elementary special education, and self-contained fifth grade. She received her BS in Chemistry, Biology Pre-Med, and Elementary Education and plans to complete her M.Ed in Education, Administration, Curriculum and Supervision in August 2008. Humphrey will teach at KIPP Tulsa College Preparatory (Tulsa, OK) in 2008-09.


  • Shannon Leonard

    Shannon Leonard currently teaches first grade at the Shanghai American School (Shanghai, China). Prior to this position, Leonard taught fourth and fifth grade at Flournoy Elementary School and second grade at 49th Street School in Los Angeles, California. He taught in Los Angeles as a Teach For America corps member in 2001 and worked as a Corps Member Advisor at the Teach For America summer institute for four years. Leonard received his BA from the College of William and Mary and his MA in Elementary Education from Loyola Marymount University. Leonard will teach at KIPP Raices Academy (Los Angeles, CA) in 2008-09


  • Norma Lopez

    Norma Lopez currently serves as an Assistant Principal at Cornelius Elementary School (Houston, TX). Prior to this position, Lopez taught math at the middle school level in McAllen, Texas and at the high school level in Houston, Texas for a total of twelve years. She received her BS from the University of Texas and her Master’s Degree in Mid-Management from Texas Southern University. Lopez is currently completing her Ed.D in Educational Leadership from Sam Houston State University. Lopez will teach at KIPP SHINE Prep (Houston, TX) in 2008-09.


  • Cynae Punch

    Cynae Punch is currently completing her Master’s Degree in Education and School Leadership at Harvard University. Previously, Punch taught for seven years at the elementary and middle school levels teaching ESL, special education, Spanish, and music in Washington, DC; Baltimore; and Houston. She received her BA from Howard University. Punch will teach at KIPP SHINE Prep (Houston, TX) in 2008-09.


  • Justin Scott

    Justin Scott is currently the founder and Executive Director of the Austin Community School (Austin, TX). Prior to founding the Austin Community School, Scott taught for eight years as an early childhood educator and pre-kindergarten teacher, worked as an Autism Therapist, and served in the Peace Corps in Uzbekistan. He received his BA from Santa Clara University and plans to complete his MA in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas at Austin in June 2008. Scott will teach at KIPP Austin College Prep in 2008-09.


  • Ben Speicher

    Ben Speicher most recently taught sixth grade science and social studies at KIPP Philadelphia Charter School for three years, where he also served as the sixth grade Chair, coordinated the Saturday school program and ran the summer tutoring program. Prior to joining KIPP Philadelphia Charter School, Speicher taught fifth grade in San Jose, California as a Teach For America corps member. He received his BA from Pomona College and his teaching credential from Cal-State Monterey Bay. Speicher will teach at KIPP DC: LEAP Academy (Washington, DC) in 2008-09.
